THE SAVAGE SORORITY

I design photos that question beauty.

Some are traditionally beautiful and archetypal. Hopefully the second, or even third thing noticed is the model’s mastectomy. Others represent emotional stages on the journey of a breast cancer diagnosis, offering a glimpse of the models private response to her disease.

This stark beauty and truth moves me.

Early in my diagnosis trajectory, I became involved with the Breast Cancer Fund. One of the women I admired at the Fund was Susan Claymon. Susan was warm and cheerful. She mentioned to me that she had heard breast cancer survivors occasionally referred to as a savage sorority. It stuck with me.
